PGD (Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis) At Pulse Women's Hospital

PGD (Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis):

It offers couples who carry serious genetic disorders the opportunity to have a healthy child without the practical and ethical problems associated with termination an affected pregnancy after traditional prenatal diagnostic technique ( chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis). Embryos generated in vitro will be biopsied and FISH test will be carried out on the cell obtained. The FISH test quickly rules out numerical abnormalities of chromosomes 13, 18,21, X&Y only. Using break point specific probes, FISH can also identify chromosomally normal, balanced and unbalanced embryos in couples with balanced translocations. The current estimate shows 90% accuracy for detection of numerical chromosomal abnormalities. The error rate of this type of diagnosis can be up to 10%.
